i wore this to work [wishes do come true]

You might remember this ensemble from here.  That is right, it only took three months but I am living proof that if you put your mind to it and shop hard, sometimes wishes do comes true.  And for those of you who doubt that I would actually wear this stuff to sit behind my desk, consider this proof that I don’t fib when I say I would/do wear these things to the office.  As evidenced by the fact that I took this picture 5 minutes ago…on my iPhone…in front of this fountain…that is anchored in front of my office.

This isn’t the first time I braved the office wilds and wore this plaid pleated maxi to the office (you might remember it from here).

holiday weekend [it’s the most wonderful time of the year]

I’m up.  I promise.  I am getting dressed for work and before you know it, the magic of the long holiday weekend will be O-V-E-R.  But before we all throw on our gabardine pants, grab our cups of joe and rush off to our staplers, I thought I might take these last few minutes to look back (through Instagram) on what a great weekend it really was.  Because yes, we are those people that actually wait until Thanksgiving is over before getting out our holiday decorations.

One day after Thanksgiving, to be exact.

sunday shop-in [the net-a-porter end-of-season sale]

It’s no secret that I spent the majority of Black Friday this weekend patrolling the Net-A-Porter end-of-season sale.  As if they are going to add new things each time I look.  Or perhaps if I wish hard enough, the Miu Miu glitter booties will suddenly be available in my size.  No such luck…YET.  There is still time… I did, however, manage to snag a few show-stoppers – i.e., a pair of Theyskens’ Theory wedges, a Rag & Bone leather trimmed skirt (below) and an Alice by Temperley Lace Blouse.  It is incredibly difficult to play favorites in a sale of this size (and quality), but if I had to, here are just a few. The majority of which, not surprisingly, are of the footwear genre.

What did you snag at the sale?

thanksgiving [being thankful in fashion]

Happy Thanksgiving!

In spite of all the doom and gloom heard on the news everyday, we all have so much to be thankful for.  I know, for one, that I am truly blessed to have my family (who stand by me no matter how crazy I become), my friends (who love me for my crazy), my career (that keeps me thinking, learning and grounded), and this blog/fashion (that me keep from losing sight of who I am in the midst of it all).  I have so much more than I deserve.

And while I am thankful for all that and so much more this Thanksgiving, because I am not so much of a sentimental lady, I thought we might share a few things we are thankful for in fashion – you know, like Rag & Bone’s mere existence.  Or perhaps glitter encrusted footwear?  I could go on, but this isn't about me, it's about you.  What are you thankful for in fashion?

Oh, what the hell, you can share what you are thankful for in life, too.

beauty focus [pose, spaphile & jewelmint beauty event]

This past Sunday, a group of bloggers, beauty insiders and spa junkies braved what I have affectionately dubbed “Monsoon LA” to gather together at the Pose / Spaphile / JewelMint Beauty Event at Tiato in Santa Monica.  Not one to be deterred by a little rain (or a flood, as the case may be), I threw on some rubber-soled boots (nothing says rain like rubber boots), threw a blanket over my head (yes, the umbrella was IN the car) and hot-footed it to the west side with my friend “K.”

i wish i was wearing this [to thanksgiving dinner]

I’ll be perfectly honest, Thanksgiving has never been one of my favorite holidays.  Don’t get me wrong – I love gathering with family and I am all for taking time to be thankful for all that we have been blessed with (this really should be done on more than one day a year, agreed?).  But being forced to eat turkey, stuffing and cranberry (really??) until your pants unbutton themselves, and then eating some more, isn't exactly on my top list of holiday activities. I much prefer bundling up to go look at lights whilst drinking hot cocoa.  But alas, my stretchy/pouch-forgiving garments and I must prepare for Thursday whether we want to or not.

If I hadn't spent every last penny I had in the Net-a-Porter secret sale on a lace blouse that reminded me of my wedding dress (because that was the first thing on my "absolutely need this for fall" list)... well, even then I probably still wouldn't be able to buy half of this.  But if the internets were my closet and/or I won a bajillion dollars (either would work), I would be wearing this on Thursday...and then to work on the Monday following:

dailybuzz style 9x9 [polka dot blues]

It is time for another DailyBuzz Style 9x9.  Yesterday, DailyBuzz Style selected nine bloggers to participate in a style challenge.  Each blogger had nine hours to shop for, style and photograph a look revolving around Polka Dots.  (To see LAW OF FASHION's contribution to the October 9x9: Bright Pants, go here).

fashion focus [lucy yang jewelry]

Last weekend I accompanied my sister-in-law to a party and had the pleasure of meeting Lucy Yang of Lucy Yang JewelryLoved her.  Not only is Lucy incredibly spunky and fun, she is also an international model who happens to have a knack for designing jewelry (if I do say so myself).  So of course I made it my business to find out everything there was to know about Lucy and her work.

Lucy’s designs revolve primarily around precious stones and metals that Lucy picks up from all over the U.S.  She designs and creates all of the pieces herself, making unique pieces that are both fashionable and chic. And for those of us with random beads, stones and old broken bobs hanging around the house, Lucy also does custom work turning random stones into works of art.  Basically, she is wonder woman.  She showed me some custom work during my visit, and it was everything I could do not to run out of her house with one of the bracelets she had worked up.  Lucy, if that bracelet goes missing, you know the first place to look...

Is it just me, or does anyone else wish that these pictures of Solange Wilvert were taken to showcase your own personal work wardrobe?  You know, because that happens a lot.

office fashion [channeling blair waldorf]

It might just be me, but every season there are a few outfits on Gossip Girl that feel like they fell right out of my closet and onto the set.  And in this next edition of “Eric Daman is Shopping in my Closet”, you might remember Blair Waldorf’s lovely Dolce & Gabanna ensemble from this week’s episode (yes, I watch Gossip Girl. Sue me.).

newsy bits [say hello to the newest poser]

Sometime ago the lovelies over at Pose contacted me and asked me to style a few work-a-holic office looks for fall – you know, for those of you that are going to spend the next two months behind a desk. What to wear to your holiday parties...in the office lobby? I have a few ideas.  So I styled three exclusive looks for certain situations you might find yourself in over the next few months, being the office maven that you are.  Have we peaked your interest yet?

Scurry on over and take a look at the final product – here.  And don’t miss out on my (admitted) shopping addiction by following LAW OF FASHION on Pose, here.

weekend [aloha dries!]

The last several days have been filled with (welcome) rain and cold.  And although I have been longing for a taste of fall in Los Angeles, as is always the case, hanging around inside during this sweater weather has me dreaming of warmer and greener pastures.  Dreams of the beach club, caftans, swimsuits and sandals.  And while I am sipping Mai Tai’s on the beach in these dreams, I am sporting none other than these…

from my inbox [winter shades]

As proof that I read your emails, I got an email from a lovely reader with an all too familiar (yet in my humble opinion, welcome) problem.  Her email went something like this:

At the beginning of the year I thought I was being responsible by enrolling in my company's flex spending account program. Well, here we are in mid-November and I've barely touched it, and I am facing the old "use-it-or-lose-it" sitch.  So as people typically do, I am looking to SPEND it and plan to get a pair of new Rx sunglasses. Which brings me to my “dear abby” style question for you, Miss Law Of Fashion: What are some IT sunnies that I should buy RIGHT NOW, before the end of the year?

Well, Miss Winter Shades, let’s call it like it is: there is only one answer to this question and that is TRANSITIONS LENSES.  Sike.  Don’t get transitions.  Instead, get some really hot shades and have them Rx’ed by your optometrist.  And because you asked so nicely, here are my top six pairs of lust-worthy sunnies.  All very right now (with cat-eyes, the Prada Butterfly’s, vintagey frames and light shades that are a chic alternative to aviators) and all super cool.  I can proudly report that I have tried on, visited, and contemplated purchasing (on multiple occasions) each of these.  You can’t possibly go wrong.  Be sure and let us know what you end up with.

Any recommendations from the peanut gallery?  Do share.

fashion focus [loeffler randall matilde flat boots]

I couldn’t help but share this lovely photo shoot, especially after my post earlier today and my love for chic flat boots.  It’s as if the lovely ladies over at Loeffler Randall and I were on the same page of the fashion book this morning.  So, in case I hadn’t convinced you of your need for a pair of flat boots, then this lovely (I promise that's the last time I will use the word "lovely") photo shoot with Marcia Patmos, designer behind M.Patmos, is sure to do the trick.

i wore this to work [tall flat boots]

Sometimes a girl has too much running around to do to wear a pair of heels.  Trust me, I know, there are a number of you that are shaking your head at me as a write this, but it’s true.  While I wear heels at every opportunity, some days there are just too many miles, too many stairs, or even too many hours in the day.  And while I would LOVE to turn my feet into a pair of callous covered corn farms on a daily basis, I decided to pass on this particular occasion.  Maybe next time…

fashion focus [falling whistles: a campaign for peace in Congo]

I met Sean not quite, but almost, ten years ago when we were both studying at the University of Texas at Austin.  Our paths crossed again when I moved to Malibu for law school and sort of happened across Sean who was also living there.  Through chance meetings on the streets of London, in the Los Angeles customs line after return trips from Italy and South Africa, and long lunches in Los Angeles, Sean and I were able to keep in touch.  And then, one day in 2007, sitting in a law library in Malibu, I found myself on an email list that began as one man’s need to share the horrific things he was witnessing in Congo, and years later became a movement that is changing the lives of many.  To read the story of Falling Whistles in the words of my friend (the words of a poet that are far better than I will ever be able to slap together here), a story that includes excerpts from those same emails I read several years go, head here.

weekend [a formal t-shirt]

Yesterday the hubs and I went to a really fun wedding in Pasadena.  Although the evening started with a monsoon (no joke, I had to do the breast-stroke to get into the reception venue), a little rain never hurt anyone and once we got inside and dry the party never stopped.  Cotton candy, cosmopolitans, dancing and a photo booth were the perfect way to wrap up our weekend.

It is fairly safe to say that I was the only attendee sporting a T-shirt.
But this was no time to compromise fashion.  And nothing is more fab than the juxtaposition of a classic t-shirt with the glamour of chiffon and fur.

weekend [happy birthday jamie]

Spent last night at Il Piccolino in West Hollywood for Jamie’s birthday.  One of the best, and most fun, dinners I have had in a really long time.  There was singing, dancing (in the street…Vicki…) and lots of laughing.  Happy Birthday Miss Jamey!

They are all under $100.00.

taking trends to the office [the crop top]

It is possible that there isn’t one garment that is more office environment averse than the crop top (or in this case, the cropped sweater).  Perhaps that is because its entire purpose is to expose at least a portion of your abdomen.  Now I don’t know why your office manager would consider you exposing your tummy to be distracting, but I am assuming that the person who made that decision was the same one who x-nayed bikinis…and sexual harassment.
